Abstract

The collegiate church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição located in the historical centre of the city of Angra was an important liturgical-musical institution in the end of the eighteenth century being dissolved by the 17 May 1832 ecclesiastical reform decree. The present study examines the musical activity of this institution and its impact as an important centre of Angra’s soundscape. References from the church itself and other institutions such as the sources of the Cathedral’s music archive and the activity of other collegiate churches were transposed to the Angra context as a way of reconstructing the activity of the collegiate of Conceição
