Brasil-Portugal (1889-1914) is a Luso-Brazilian journal which belongs to the Belle Époque of the illustrated magazines at the turn of the 19th century in Europe, aimed at the political and social elites from Brazil and Portugal. It developed a very specific project to build a Luso-Brazilian cultural community through the dissemination of numerous literary texts and engravings by Portuguese and Brazilian poets, writers, and artists on their pages. However, it was also responsible for editing other publications, including albums, almanacs, and an extraordinary issue in 1900. This year, in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil by Pedro Álvares Cabral, Brazil developed numerous initiatives to commemorate this founding moment of national history. In this study, we analyze the nature of this publication and the characteristics and contents of its editing that allowed it to be considered by the public and the press at the time, both a book, an album, and a special issue of the Brasil-Portugal magazine.
