A look at the emancipation of local power in the Portalegre district (12/12/1976)

The present study, which is part of the research line developed by the author of this work “A look at the emancipation of Local Power in the Portalegre district (12/12/1976)”, took as its objective the valorization/dissemination of the local heritage in the municipality of Portalegre, after the change of political regime. In this way, the methodology used was based, above all, on the fine analysis of the available sources: correspondence between the Technical Secretariat of Affairs for the Electoral Process (STAPE) and the Civil Governor of the District of Portalegre, the two regionalist periodicals with the highest circulation in the region, The District of Portalegre and the Semanário Socialista Independente a Rabeca (commonly known as A Rabeca) and the Minutes of the municipality of Portalegre. In parallel, a detailed study was carried out of the legislative framework that supported the preparation of electoral suffrage (officials, laws, decree-laws and ordinances), whose emancipation from Local Power was a reality embodied in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic of 1976.
